I have been spending a lot of time lately thinking about the topic of employee retention and the relationship between employees and managers.
For many years (over 35), I have been privy to many of the complaints, disappointments and frustrations of employees who are working under managers who just don’t “get them.” From my perspective as a psychotherapist, in order to be a good manager, one needs a good dose of emotional intelligence. Some people are blessed with those “people instincts,” others need to be taught.
The good news is that we are all “teachable,” as long as the student is willing.
